# Procurement debarment

> Check whether a company is banned from participating in Slovak public procurement, including the reason and the period of the ban.

The Slovak Public Procurement Office maintains a register of debarred persons. A ban is a sanction with a clear start and end, and it means the entity cannot take part in public procurement while it lasts.

## What the register contains
- Whether a ban is currently in force
- Whether the entity appears in the register at all
- Reason the ban was imposed
- Period for which the ban was imposed

## Fields we return

| Field | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| `is_debarred` | Whether a ban is in force right now. |
| `is_listed` | Whether the entity is in the register at all, even after a ban expired. |
| `status` | Record status per the register. |
| `violation_reason` | Reason the ban was imposed. |
| `banned_from` | Date from which the ban applies. |
| `banned_until` | Date until which the ban applies. |

## How to request the data

```http
GET /v1/company/ico/51636549?scope=debarred
{
  "debarred": {
    "is_debarred": false,
    "is_listed": false,
    "status": null,
    "banned_from": null,
    "banned_until": null
  }
}
```

## How often we update

Daily. A ban directly affects eligibility and both its start and end are tied to a specific date, so we check the register every day.

## What it is used for

When assembling a consortium or picking a subcontractor for a public contract, a ban on any member can disqualify the whole bid. The check is a mandatory part of preparation.

The distinction between is_debarred and is_listed matters here: an expired ban is different information from a clean register and carries different weight in supplier assessment.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why two flags rather than one?

Because a company whose ban has expired is not the same as a company that never had one. Collapsing them into one flag would erase that difference.

### Does the ban apply to private contracts too?

No. It concerns participation in public procurement. As an indicator in supplier assessment it is relevant beyond that, though.
